Short Break on the Road toward New Horizons Dolores Denaro Diez minutos de descanso is the title of a painting by Cuban artist Flora Fong. Four stylized royal palms, the gigantic native plant of the Caribbean, support a huge coffee filter on top of a jar. Gallery Inauguration and Vernissage of ‘Art: Elixir of Life’ by Flora Fong

Flora Fong (*1949) ist eine der bekanntesten zeitgenössischen Künstlerinnen Kubas und eine der ersten Frauen der postrevolutionären Kunstszene. Ihre Arbeiten wurden international an zahlreichen Ausstellungen präsentiert und mehrfach ausgezeichnet. In ihren Werken verbindet sie chinesische und karibische Sichtweisen mit starken Form- und Farbakzenten. Dadurch erhalten ihre Gemälde und Skulpturen ihre unverwechselbare eigene Bildsprache. Heute fallen der Höhepunkt ihres künstlerischen Schaffens und die aktuelle kulturelle und wirtschaftliche Öffnung Kubas zeitlich zusammen.
