Throughout the years, the collective portrait as a form of representation has recorded the different strata that make up society. Its group structure has consolidated ideological expressions, constructions of identity, and the cohesion of brotherhoods, while also making it possible to document multiple generations, each shaped by its own ideals.
The work begins with a photograph of a kindergarten classroom in Havana from the 1940–1941 school year. After isolating the faces of each girl and boy, AI was used with the prompt to reconstruct what each of them might look like today. The piece proposes the creation of a temporal vertex between the image of a small generation of children as promises of a better future and that same generation already consumed, defeated, and worn down by time. What might they have changed? What did they do better or worse than the generations before them? What defines a generation?
