What is personality but a mask, a veil, a hieroglyphic symbol of the unique, intangible aspects that define an individual? Great beings are those who profess, in word and deed, such a love for true dignity and freedom that their personality transcends the boundaries of their individuality, becoming, not reliquaries of human desires and appetites, but heralds of the universal spirit. They saturate the ages to such an extent that when monuments are erected to them, it is found unnecessary, since they are a stony symbol in the souls of generations.
