The Rebellion of the Self / La Rebelión del Yo
In The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Kundera recounts that Teresa looked in the mirror seeking something beyond her features; for her, the face was an instrument panel of bodily mechanisms. Some parameters by which we are socially known have little meaning for us, as they have come to us by chance. I have tried to show the difference I feel between myself and myself, presenting through this work my interest in seeing myself as I want to feel: the need for self-identification. I impose other aesthetic demands on my body; sometimes I feel it as scaffolding to place my head, my soul, my consciousness. The problem of the body haunts humanity today, and while I do not demand ignoring its existence, I call for a rebellion against the expectations we seek in our reflection and against the mirror we use to reproach our physique.
