Buying original Cuban art through ArteMorfosis is a personal, guided process — not an automated checkout. Every purchase is handled individually so we can confirm availability, answer your questions, and make sure the work arrives safely wherever you are in the world.

How Buying Works

Purchasing a work through ArteMorfosis follows a straightforward process. Because every piece ships from Cuba and involves individual export arrangements, we handle each sale personally rather than through an automated cart.

Step 1 — Express your interest

When you find a work you’d like to acquire, click Enquire to purchase on the artwork page and send us a message. Include any questions you have about the piece — technique, dimensions, Zustand, framing options, or anything else.

Step 2 — Confirmation and pricing

We confirm the artwork is available and provide a full cost breakdown: artwork price, export fees, Verpackung, and shipping to your location. There are no hidden costs — everything is itemised before you commit.

Step 3 — Written confirmation

Once you’re happy with all the details, you confirm your purchase in writing. At this point we reserve the work in your name.

Step 4 — Invoice and payment

An invoice is issued on behalf of the artist. Full payment is required to formalise the purchase. We accept bank transfer and major payment methods — details are provided on the invoice.

Step 5 — Export, packaging and shipment

Once payment is received, we begin the export permit process, pack the work professionally for international transit, and ship it to you. We send tracking information as soon as the shipment is on its way.

Please note: the purchase agreement is between you and the artist, with ArteMorfosis acting as authorised sales agent and intermediary.

Worldwide Shipping

We ship original Cuban artworks to collectors around the world. Every shipment is handled individually — packing methods and carrier selection depend on the size, medium and destination of each piece.

Packaging

All works are professionally packed for international transit — rolled in acid-free tubes when the technique allows it, or crated flat by necessity or client preference. We use carriers experienced in fine art shipping.

Shipping costs

Shipping costs are calculated individually based on the dimensions, weight and destination of the work. The full shipping cost is included in your quote before you confirm the purchase — you will never receive an unexpected charge after the fact.

Delivery times

Delivery timelines depend on the artwork’s origin. Pieces shipped from Cuba require an official export permit; transit time in this case is approximately 3 weeks from payment confirmation. Pieces shipped from other countries follow standard international shipping timelines.

Import duties and customs

Any import taxes, customs duties, or local handling fees applicable in the destination country are the responsibility of the buyer. We provide all necessary documentation to facilitate customs clearance at your end.

A note for buyers in the United States

Importing original Cuban artworks into the United States is fully legal and explicitly exempt from the US embargo. Under the Cuban Assets Control Regulations (CACR) issued by the US Department of the Treasury — specifically sections 515.206 Und 515.332 — original works of art are classified as informational materials and are exempt from trade restrictions. No special licence or permit is required on the buyer’s side.

Certificate of Authenticity

Every original work sold through ArteMorfosis comes with a certificate of authenticity. This document confirms that the piece is an original work by the named artist and was sold through ArteMorfosis as their authorised representative.

Purchasing an artwork gives you full ownership of the physical piece. Copyright and all reproduction rights remain with the artist. This means the work may not be reproduced, printed, or used commercially without the artist’s explicit written consent.

For collectors and resale

The certificate of authenticity travels with the artwork and should be kept in a safe place. It is essential documentation for insurance purposes, future resale, or exhibition loans.

Export Paperwork Handled

Exporting original art from Cuba requires official cultural export permits issued by Cuban authorities. ArteMorfosis manages this process entirely on your behalf — it is included as part of every purchase and requires nothing from you.

Export costs

The cost of export permits and documentation is included in the itemised quote you receive before confirming your purchase. There are no additional charges added after the sale.

What we handle

  • Application for official Cuban cultural export permits
  • Coordination with Cuban customs authorities
  • Preparation of all export documentation required for the artwork to leave Cuba legally
  • Commercial invoice and packing list for international customs
  • Assistance with any additional documentation required by the destination country

Why this matters

Not all Cuban art leaves the country through proper legal channels. Purchasing through ArteMorfosis guarantees that the work has been exported with full official documentation — which protects you as a collector, ensures the work can be legally resold or exhibited internationally, and supports the artists by keeping their work within a transparent, documented market.
