DE LA SERIE: Living with the Enemy
En 2006, the Cuban government launched a massive fumigation campaign known as In the Fight Against the Enemy. Within a few months, el Aedes aegypti mosquito—transmitter of dengue fever—was transformed into a powerful “invader.” In the series Living with the Enemy, I adopt a form of documentary photography, akin to that of a war correspondent, drawing on the visual impact generated by this situation inside domestic interiors filled with smoke, resembling scenes of chaos or a battlefield.
Through this approach, the series becomes a record of an ephemeral scenario produced by a social event, capturing a fleeting moment in which everyday space is temporarily transformed by collective fear, control mechanisms, and visual disarray.
