Exposición colectiva – PRISMA 4. Curatorship in Virtual Space

Prisma 4 Art Contest
ArteMorfosis launched the fourth edition of its annual Prisma Art Contest with the goal of strengthening curatorial practice, understood as both a creative y reflective act.
This event has become a space of experimentation where the curator is recognized not only as an interpreter and mediator, but also as a generator of meaning between the artwork and its audiences.
Context: The Havana Biennial
Prisma 4 coincided with the 14a Bienal de La Habana, historically known as a laboratory for rethinking art from the Global South.
In this framework, the contest encouraged new critical and contextual perspectives on contemporary Cuban art.
Focus of this Edition
- Expanded its scope to include the possibilities of curating in digital environments.
- Responded to the rise of the metaverse, virtuality, and immersive platforms, which challenge traditional exhibition models.
- Raised key questions:
- How does the aesthetic experience change in virtual scenarios?
- What happens when both artworks and exhibition spaces unfold digitally?
Prisma 4 invited curators a la:
- Imagine alternative narratives.
- Conceive multiple versions of a single exhibition.
- Use digital tools to strengthen connections between:
- the viewer,
- the artwork,
- the artist,
- and the cultural context.
Participation and Vision
The call was open to Cuban curators over 18 residing in the country, ya sea individually or collectively.
Through this initiative, ArteMorfosis reaffirmed its vision of curating as a living, constantly reinvented practice—one that can enrich the Cuban art landscape with crítico, inclusive, and socially engaged approaches.
Winning Project
The winning proposal of Prisma 4 was Beyond the Limits of Narciso, curated by Estela Ferrer.
This project brought together works by several Cuban artists around the central theme of self-referentiality.
