180° of Nothing / 180° de Nada
The executions carried out in Cuba have always been an obscure subject that people prefer not to mention. Unlike other events, they were hardly
covered by the press and television, generating over the years a visual void on the subject. This absence of images allowed me to create my own
representation of these events, but this time seeking to re-construct the gaze of the condemned. The circular images and shooting angles are
intended to evoke the drama of the “last image” that they could see before death. Each image becomes a metaphor for those flashes of light in the
face of eternal darkness. Al mismo tiempo, the work proposes a reflection on the notions of the hero from the dialogue of two different points of
view; the Mambí patriots executed by the Spaniards in the Foso de los Laureles during the colony, and the executions carried out by the
Revolution.
