I have always responded promptly to the pressing need to create because new possibilities burn inside me that I must constantly express; to fill in the blank spaces of the canvas with these ‘worlds’ or living spaces I create. For his lifetime achievement he was awarded the Cuban National Prize for Visual Arts in 2006.
