
Jany Batista & José Miguel Cano
Jany Batista (Havana *2001) is a Cuban contemporary visual artist whose career reflects both academic excellence and creative innovation within the Havana art scene. She began her formal training in 2014 at the Experimental Center of Visual Arts “José Antonio Díaz Peláez” (23 and C), graduating in 2016 with special recognition. That same year, she entered the prestigious National Academy of Fine Arts “San Alejandro,” where she graduated with honors in 2020.
In 2021, Batista continued her studies at the University of the Arts (ISA), Faculty of Visual Arts, where she is currently completing her fourth year (2024). Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across Cuba, as well as in major national art events. Several of her pieces form part of private collections in Spain and the United States, confirming her growing international presence.
Batista’s artistic practice contributes to the richness of Cuban visual arts, establishing her as one of the emerging voices of her generation.
José Miguel Cano (Havana * 1999) is a Cuban visual artist trained at the prestigious San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts and recently graduated (2024) from the University of the Arts (ISA) in Havana. His artistic career reflects a strong foundation in printmaking while expanding into experimental practices that integrate photography, digital media, sound, and installation. Cano held his first solo exhibition Fall into Line in 2022 at ArteMorfosis – Cuban Art Platform, followed by his 2024 solo show Impasse at Galería Taller Gorría, one of Havana’s most dynamic spaces for contemporary Cuban art. He has also participated in collaborative projects on VR-All-Art, highlighting his interest in the intersection between technology and contemporary artistic practices. His pieces include works such as Las sonrisas de Blind, combining zinc, lead, and recorded laughter, and Hic et Nunc, a 3D animation that demonstrates his versatility and conceptual depth. Recognized as one of the emerging voices of his generation, his work is increasingly present in the Havana art scene and resonates internationally.
