About Artist

May Reguera, actress, photographer and visual artist. She studied at the Escuela Nacional de Arte and then college at the Higher Institute of Art. As an actress she worked in theater, television and cinema. And as a photographer she has had 7 personal exhibitions in Cuba of photography and performance: Banco, Telón, Amar&Ya, Paisaje, #Libre, Vida #latribu and other collective exhibitions. For May communicating is a vital need, telling and creating safe spaces to talk about social problems that affect us as individuals and as a collective.

Her self-discovery, her self-recognition as a woman and how society has impacted on her understanding then to change history, and impact her on society. In each experience she transmutes, loses her skin and another one is born. With each self-portrait she tells a story, hers and that of many.
May Reguera unfolds, unravels and reassembles herself all the time. Her self-portraits are a way of discovering and reconstructing herself at the same time, in a profound and often heartbreaking exercise. The courage with which May Reguera experiments with her own image is moving and inspiring, it takes us on an intimate journey of her own, a return to the individual and personal essence. In the portraits of others May reads herself and that other is seen and recognized. May achieves with her many characters that each one of us, we review our own, our voices, our masks, our armor.

She is a photographer for @myreguerastudio (photography studio) and the general creative director of @mymycreativa (communication agency)
