
Yonlay Cabrera
Yonlay Cabrera is a Cuban artist, designer, and scholar with a solid background in digital art and visual media. He has served as a professor at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Cuba and has worked as a motion graphics designer for international brands such as Samsung, LG, and UberEATS. His academic training includes a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Media Art from Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of Havana. He has been awarded prestigious scholarships such as the MEXT scholarship from the Japanese government and the BIG D@T@! BIG MON€Y! program at HALLE 14 Center for Contemporary Art in Germany.
His work has been exhibited in major art events and galleries in Cuba, Japan, Germany, and Austria. He has held solo exhibitions such as BED Series (2024) at Tama Art University and VK procedure (Tokyo version) (2020) at the 3331 Art Chiyoda Center. He has also participated in prominent group exhibitions including the Havana Biennial in 2022 and 2024, the Ars Electronica Festival in Austria, and various shows in Cuban and international galleries. His work explores the intersection between art, technology, and symbolic representation, with a strong focus on analyzing the impact of digital media.
In addition to his artistic production, Cabrera has contributed research published in specialized journals such as Leonardoand Tama Art Studies, addressing topics on visual representation and the relationship between invention and art. He has also given lectures at international academic forums, including the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Poland and the International Colloquium on Art and Culture Studies Ibero-America–Japan in Mexico.
