Artwork Statement

The series "The Other Side of the Flag" appropriates diverse tile designs as vestiges of colonial constructions that have transcended time. The colors have been modified to white, blue, and red, as an allegorical element to the Cuban Lone Star Flag, but also to the United States Flag, to question the historical and cultural values present today. By preserving an eclectic visuality that comes from an Arab, Moorish-Spanish influence, Catalan modernism, and the determination of the United States as a pseudo-colony, it is difficult to obtain a merely autochthonous image, merging tradition and historiographical renewal in the same medium.
