    Artwork Statement

    The frayed trousers are a metaphor for a system that clothed men in heroism while wearing down their bodies. The threads, like numbers from those days, expose the paradox: without sugarcane there is no homeland, but without bodies there is no sugarcane. The work dismantles the archive as a device of power. By replacing the sugarcane with thread, I invert the documentary gesture; I don't show what was, but what remains after the official narrative.
