Artwork Statement

I aim to initiate a dialogue about the portrait as a cultural representation of identity in constant transformation. Just as sandpaper is used to shape, polish, and mold materials, photography—as a medium—significantly intervenes in and alters both our self-perception and how we are perceived within our social environment. These portraits—serene and neutral, yet simultaneously erosive—present the possibility of destruction as an opportunity for renewal: an image destroyed in the very act of constructing another.
