Artwork Statement

Created during an artist residency in Italy, this work draws inspiration from the classical art of mosaics. Employing a beading technique, I replace stone tesserae with my own medium—glass beads—stitching them onto the textile surface to build up the image, leaving the red felt base visible only in select areas. The result is an ensemble that recreates dead, gray, colorless corals—forms that were once as red as the fabric that supports them.
