My Grandfather’s Legs / Las piernas de mi abuelo.
This image represents the fragility of the human body in old age, symbolized through elderly legs adorned with turtles and pierced shells. I have witnessed the passage of time in my grandfather—his once strong limbs, used to swimming in the sea due to his passion for spearfishing, have become nearly motionless bones.
Turtles, with their connotation of slowness and longevity, represent the passage of time and the weight of accumulated experience. As the body weakens, it becomes a reflection of the internal struggle between youthful vitality and the inevitable decline that comes with age.
This work invites reflection on how society perceives aging and the beauty that can be found in vulnerability and the wisdom that comes with lived years.
