
Alexandra Álvarez Carvajal
Born in Havana in 1999, Alexandra Álvarez Carvajal is a distinguished Cuban visual artist. She is a member of the Asociación Hermanos Saiz and has been part of the NFT artist roster at Fábrica de Arte Cubano. She holds a degree in Visual Arts from the University of the Arts of Cuba (ISA), where she graduated with the Título de Oro, and previously studied at the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts. Her artistic career reflects a strong commitment to research and experimentation across various formats and media.
In her professional practice, Álvarez Carvajal serves as a museology specialist at the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba. She has also taught Visual Arts at the International School of Havana. Additionally, she founded BENAIF, a project dedicated to art education for children and the elderly, collaborating with institutions such as Fábrica de Arte Cubano and the National Museum of Fine Arts. Her pedagogical approach and cultural management have significantly contributed to expanding art within communities and educational spaces.
She has held solo exhibitions, including SIDE at the Center for the Development of Visual Arts and GLITCH at the José Antonio Díaz Peláez Gallery of San Alejandro. Her work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions, including the 15th Havana Biennial and the 9th Salon of Contemporary Cuban Art. Her pieces have been curated by renowned specialists and showcased in key Cuban art spaces such as the Ludwig Foundation, Galería Servando, and Fábrica de Arte Cubano.
Internationally, Álvarez Carvajal’s work has been featured in major events and publications. She was selected as a photographer for the production of This is 18, a book published by The New York Times, and has contributed images to magazines such as Lettres de Cuba. She has also participated in symposia and portfolio reviews, including Fotofest Houston and Time Labs Cuba Photography Missions, further establishing her presence in global art circuits.
Her training includes specialized workshops in photography, Chinese traditional painting, metal casting, and lighting, led by renowned experts at institutions such as ISA, Fototeca de Cuba, and the Confucius Institute. Her passion for artistic experimentation is evident in the diversity of her projects and her innovative use of both analog and digital media.
Alexandra Álvarez Carvajal’s artistic journey reflects continuous evolution, grounded in rigorous academic training and a significant presence in both Cuban and international cultural spheres. Her work, characterized by visual research and the exploration of new narratives, positions her as one of the leading emerging figures in contemporary Cuban art.
