About Artist

David López Cruz (Matanzas, Cuba, 1999) is a Cuban visual artist and fine art photographer. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in Foreign Languages, specializing in English Language, and has developed his artistic practice in a self-taught manner. His work delves into the poetic and symbolic dimensions of contemporary Cuban photography, reflecting on identity, memory, and the human condition.

López Cruz’s photographs have been exhibited in numerous collective exhibitions across Cuba, including Ríos Intermitentes — a project by Cuban-American artist María Magdalena Campos-Pons, part of the 14th Havana Biennial (2021) — as well as in Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia.

He has received several awards and distinctions, including an Honorable Mention at the 11th Alfredo Sarabia In Memoriam Biennial of Photography in Cuba (2020); Finalist at the Quijote PhotoFest (2021); and First Prize in the Latin American Documentary Photography Contest “Los trabajos y los días”, in the Care Economy category (2022). He was also selected for the FotoFest Virtual Portfolio Presentation Cuba, organized by the Fototeca de Cuba.

His emerging body of work positions him among the new generation of Cuban photographers, characterized by a balance between aesthetic sensitivity and documentary vision, contributing to the vitality of contemporary Cuban visual arts.
