Julia Valdés Borrero
Julia Valdés was born in 1952, in Santiago de Cuba. Painter, draftswoman, engraver and ceramist.
Studied at: 1962 - 1966 “José Joaquín Tejada” Plastic Arts Workshop School, Santiago de Cuba; 1967 - 1972. National School of Art (ENA). Havana, Cuba; 1984 - 1989 History of art, University of the East, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. He has had solo exhibitions since 1978 in Cuba, Germany, Dominican Republic, Colombia. Some of her personal exhibitions are: My Second Skin, Zona Franca, Collateral Exhibitions of XII Havana Biennial, Morro-Cabaña Military Historical Park (2015); Illuminations, collateral exhibition XI Havana Biennial (2012); Travesias, “La Confronta” Gallery, Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, Santiago de Cuba (2012); Erosions, Carmen Terreros Gallery, Zaragoza, Spain (2008); Memory on the Walls, Galerie Wuensch, Linz, Austria (2007); Personal exhibition-Chiesa di S. Giuseppe. Gubio, Italy (2007); Julio and Julia Cuban Abstraction (With Julio Mendoza), Gallery at LandAir, New York, USA (2004). She has participated in group exhibitions in Holland, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, France, Cuba and Spain. A selection of her group exhibitions: Territory for thinking. She has won awards in National Salons and the Painting Grand Prize “No Morrazo”, Galicia, Spain. Her works are in the collections of the Emilio Bacardi Museum, Santiago de Cuba and the National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba.
