Yanzel Medina Pérez (*1993) is a Cuban visual artist and scenic designer. A graduate in painting from the Roberto Diago Querol Professional School of Arts in 2012, he expanded his training by becoming a professional model at the Actuar Agency in 2018 and specializing in scenic design at the Faculty of Theatrical Arts at the University of the Arts (ISA) in 2020. His multidisciplinary work spans painting, drawing, performance, scenic and costume design, as well as murals and poster creation.
Since 2009, Medina has showcased his art in numerous solo and group exhibitions in galleries and cultural spaces across Cuba and abroad. Notable exhibitions include “50% Soltera” (2012) at the ETECSA Gallery, “Pop Rock de los 60”(2017) at the Benny Moré Art Center, and the immersive intervention “Kósmos” (2024). His projects explore diverse themes such as eroticism, pop culture, music, and spiritual traditions. Medina’s international recognition includes participation in prestigious events like the Havana Biennial (2024), where he won an award for his work in the Landscape Salon.
In scenic design, Yanzel has collaborated on theatrical productions such as La Zapatera Prodigiosa (2022), Réquiem por Yarini (2024) with Teatro El Público, and other projects with the La Chinche Theater Studio, integrating set and costume design. Additionally, he has created commemorative murals and designed posters for cultural events and theatrical productions, solidifying his status as a versatile and integral artist.
As a cultural promoter, Yanzel founded the Marilyn Monroe Studio Workshop in 2014, which served as a vital platform for emerging artists in Cienfuegos over a five-year period. His work with institutions such as the International Film School of San Antonio de los Baños and his involvement in collective projects—like the artistic tour of eastern provinces for the 40th anniversary of ISA—highlight his dedication to the social impact of art. Currently, his works are part of private collections in over ten countries, underscoring his significance in the contemporary art scene. Yanzel Medina is also the resident designer for Teatro El Público.
