Artwork Statement

The Golden Thread embodies the archetype of The Mystic. The work begins with an act of psychomagic: I assume the archetype’s pose, photograph myself, and transfer that image to the canvas, where oil paint and embroidery meet. The Mystic inhabits the darkness and sustains the act of waiting. Her body is real. Her presence is that of one who has traversed the night and continues on. Over the oil paint, each hand-stitched stitch marks the rhythm and the line that reinforces the form. The gold thread illuminates.

This piece belongs to an ongoing series in which each work embodies a feminine archetype. The gold thread is one more layer of the same inquiry: how to inhabit vulnerability through different materials, and what part of myself is revealed in each one.
