Flaking

I am interested in proposing a dialogue about portraiture as a cultural representation of identity in constant transformation. Just as sandpaper is used to shape, polish, and give form to materials, photography as a medium intervenes in and significantly alters how we perceive ourselves and how we are perceived within the social environment.

These portraits, calm and neutral yet at the same time erosive, suggest the possibility of destruction as an opportunity for renewal, an image that is destroyed in the construction of another.
