Catharsis / Catarsis

Monks represent the religious on earth for the Eastern hemisphere, as well as the union between the divine and the earthly. Symbol of spirituality and purification through meditation. On the other hand, catharsis is a Western term focused on achieving purification as well, but through the purging of lower instincts. Starting from this concept, I use the canvas and the chemical properties of oil to create the purging scenario. That is, by painting and then extracting part of the pictorial surface cyclically with soap and water, a process of creation-destruction-purification is generated.
