
Alfredo Coello
Alfredo Coello Arzuaga, a Cuban visual artist born in Granma in 1992, is a prominent figure in contemporary Cuban art. He graduated in 2010 from the "Carlos E. Gómez" Academy of Fine Arts and refined his skills between 2013 and 2015 at the workshop of renowned artist Arturo Montoto in Havana. His artistic path is characterized by a continuous exploration of drawing and painting, with participation in notable solo and group exhibitions.
His solo shows include El umbral de la montaña (2020) at the Hispano-American Center of Culture, A campo traviesa(2019) at the Galiano Gallery, and Pirulí (2017) at the Carmelo González Gallery. These exhibitions explore symbolic themes related to the connection between humans and their environment. He also presented Conversación con Gorgias(2016), reflecting his interest in the relationship between art and philosophy.
In group exhibitions, he has participated in several editions of the Havana Biennial, including the most recent in 2024, where he showcased works such as Acerasur, Ágora: Meeting Point for Contemporary Art, and Prisma.8. Internationally, his art has been featured at the Cubartfestival in Zurich (2023) and the virtual exhibition La Hora de Cuba in São Paulo (2020).
Coello Arzuaga's talent has been recognized with awards, including second place in the emerging artists' competition Post-it4 (2017) for his work Fe. His involvement in curatorial projects, such as Sitio de agua at the 12th Havana Biennial, highlights his commitment to artistic experimentation.
