Sweet awakening II / Dulce despertar II
Certain coordinates help us reconstruct memory... The open sea is part of my being, as is the analogy between time, the customs of man, the condition of a cultural, historical, geographical island, which have defined my past and continue to do so from now. But more than being, it is the feeling like that open sea, it is my metaphor for the human soul. That is why the representation of something as open as the ocean became essential in my work to rethink the fragments that define not one, but all people, a context, a time and an island tradition. Metal and canvas as supports with varied dimensions, color and character of the stain, try to recreate an almost abstract image of the remnants of that sea. This is also where the idea that the representation of memory is built on fragments of the natural marine environment, far from the artificial world and the elements intervened by man, comes from; a place that cannot be completely encompassed, with shapes that are continually repeated, but unique and independent. Each work presents my personal experiences like an open sea, sometimes unfathomable and impassable, visible to everyone and with its hidden secrets in the background, temperamental and solicitous, at the same time the origin of life, of creation, without like there was no time, no history, no memory.
