
Adrian Socorro
Adrián Socorro Suárez (b. 1979, Matanzas, Cuba) is a renowned Cuban visual artist and a member of the UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba). With an extensive artistic career, he has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Cuba and internationally. His artwork has been featured in multiple editions of the Havana Biennial and other prestigious cultural venues. Among his most recent solo exhibitions are Happiness at Galería Pedro Esquerré and Vernissage at Loftbahía, both showcased at the Havana Biennial 2025. Previous notable exhibitions include Quién mató a Baudelaire, La delgada línea negra, and Miserunomismo, presented in galleries across Matanzas, Havana, and Mexico City. His work has also been displayed in esteemed venues such as the Centro de Desarrollo de las Artes Visuales and Fábrica de Arte Cubano.
Socorro's art has been part of significant collective exhibitions worldwide. In 2025, his work was featured in All Together, Relatos Materiales, and Saga during the Havana Biennial. In 2024, he participated in La isla en peso in Mérida, Mexico, and Instancias del yo at Fábrica de Arte Cubano. His artwork has also reached international audiences through exhibitions such as Cuban-esque Art Affair in Australia and Sounds of the Bay in New York. He has showcased his work at international art fairs, including ArtMadrid 2023 at the Palacio de Cristal in Madrid, strengthening his presence in the contemporary art scene. He has also been selected for major art salons such as UNEAC’s exhibition in Matanzas and the Roberto Diago Querol Provincial Visual Arts Event. Over the years, he has received several awards and accolades, further cementing his status as a leading Cuban visual artist.
In addition to painting and illustration, Socorro has explored scenic design, collaborating with the theater group El Portazo in productions like Antígona and Por gusto. He also contributed to the creation of Esteros, the first Living Statues Gallery in Matanzas, showcasing his versatility and ability to engage in diverse artistic disciplines. As an illustrator, his work has been featured in multiple publications, including the award-winning book Subsuelos (Critics' Award, 2023), as well as Anhedonia, El retablo verde, and issues of El Caimán Barbudo. His illustrations have enriched Cuban magazines and publishing houses, reinforcing his influence on both the visual arts and literary scene in Cuba.
